Social Web presentation from last week's HCC meeting

We experienced some technical hardware difficulties at last week's HCC meeting, so I was unable to display the visual part of my presentation on "Special Collections and the Social Web".   I did still talk through the concepts and materials with those present, and was able to provide suggestions to those who are eager to give these social tools a try. I can't wait to see their progress!

Embedded below is the slide show part of my visual presentation. Click on the play icon to begin the presentation. You may also download a copy of the presentation by clicking on the Menu button at the bottom of the player.

To second part of my visual presentation is an interactive guide that I developed for the Pollak Library.  Click on the image below, or this  link, to access the guide.

I will continue to update the guide with new tools and examples as I discover them, so check back to this blog often, as I will announce any updates here.

Free Facebook webinar March 11th!

Is your heritage organization wanting to set up a Facebook fan page, but you're not quite sure how?  Has your organization already created one, but you're unsure about what do do with it now?

TechSoup, a technology consultant for nonprofits, is offering a FREE 1-hour webinar this Thursday (March 11th, 10am PST) about "Get Started on Facebook":
In this webinar Kami Griffiths will interview social media consultant John Haydon, who will walk through the essential steps to establishing and managing a successful Facebook presence for a nonprofit or library. We will also hear from Gabe O'Neill of Kids Are Heroes, who will share lessons learned from developing their own Facebook page. Get practical how-to information, learn best practices, ask questions, and leave with action items that will help you create an engaging Facebook presence for your organization.

I've "attended" a couple of the free online webinars offered by TechSoup, and I highly recommend them as a good easy to understand introduction to nonprofit-related technology topics.

Interested? Register online now.
